Dorsal stream mechanisms for auditory-motor integration in the human brain
Accurate perception and production of music and speech require integration of auditory and motor information for accurate performance. It is proposed that cortical and subcortical feedback loops in the auditory dorsal stream underlie this integration. I will present a series of studies that examine the role of the auditory-motor dorsal stream in musical learning, rhythm perception and production, and expertise. These findings will be interpreted in the context of current models of prediction and sensory-motor integration.
