2021 Summer School in Nonlinear Dynamics (May 31-June 11, 2021 ONLINE)

Summer School in Nonlinear Dynamics: Applications to Neuroscience and Psychology

Hosted by NSERC-CREATE in Complex Dynamics and CAMBAM

Living systems are typical examples of dynamical systems with many interrelated parts or subsystems, from small-scale cellular relationships to large-scale population relationships. Nonlinear dynamics arise when the behaviour of one subsystem, with its own dynamics, becomes the input for another subsystem, imposing certain constraints on its dynamics. Nonlinear dynamics underlie our developmental trajectory; the spread of information in human neural networks and disease; and the prediction of evolving systems in changing environments. We plan to provide young scientists with hands-on knowledge of nonlinear dynamics in life sciences and computer tools to guide new analyses.

In this 2-week online summer school, expert instructors from CREATE, CAMBAM, and around the world will deliver lectures and computer labs devoted to advancements in nonlinear dynamics. Recent topics include: machine learning applications; computational neuroscience developments; and infectious disease (COVID-19) and communication transmission.

Research Skills Workshop at McGill: May 11, 2021 (10am-11:30am EST, Online)

Workshop Overview:

This workshop, offered by Emily Kingsland of McGill's Library and Information Sciences, will cover a broad range of online tools designed for natural and life sciences. This workshop is aimed at undergraduates with some research experience who will learn a range of techniques for literature reviews, scoping reviews, and related topics. All CREATE undergraduate trainees are welcome to attend. To register please contact the program coordinator who will distribute the online link before the event.
