This workshop, offered by Emily Kingsland of McGill's Library and Information Sciences, will cover a broad range of online tools designed for natural and life sciences. This workshop is aimed at undergraduates with some research experience who will learn a range of techniques for literature reviews, scoping reviews, and related topics. Presented by the Centre for Applied Mathematics in Bioscience and Medicine (CAMBAM), in collaboration with the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM) and with the NSERC-CREATE in Complex Dynamics, the summer school will cover a broad range of topics on the applications of nonlinear dynamics and computations to life sciences, ranging from the sub-cellular world to population dynamics. The program will include theory-based and application-based lectures taught by internationally recognized researchers in the field, as well as tutorials and computer labs that will complement the material covered during lectures. Instructors will also supervise group projects conducted by participants.

CREATE graduate and postdoc trainees are invited to learn about our internship program at a meet-and-greet event with our internship partners, to be held online on November 16, 2021 from 4:30pm-7pm EST. All graduate and postdoctoral CREATE trainees are eligible to hold FUNDED full-time and part-time internships with our industry and government partners. Full details about the internship partners and funding can be found at cd-create.org/internship-partners.

Trainees will have the opportunity to hear from our internship partners, meet informally with them, and hold short one-on-one interviews with partners.

This workshop presentation will provide tips and tricks for preparation, effective communication, and follow-ups that will help you put your best foot forward in an interview, whether in-person or virtually.

Workshop Overview:

Over the past decade, the neuroimaging field has produced (and continues to produce) incredible amounts of data. As a result, the scientific community has developed a diverse set of tools to facilitate the FAIRness of these data. This workshop will introduce the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) and BIDS Apps as well as a few other tools. This workshop is being offered by the Rotman Research Training Center via Zoom. 

Workshop Objectives:

The workshop is designed to help attendees:

• Understand how MRI data are organized
• Learn the benefits of BIDS
• Convert MRI data to BIDS in some hands-on exercises
• Run reproducible pipelines that take BIDS data as input (BIDS Apps)
• Use the tools discussed during the workshop on Rotman Servers, including the GRID, and the SciNet computing cluster

Attendee Requirements:

This workshop assumes that attendees have some familiarity with the different MRI modalities. The workshop will also use both the Unix shell and Python to demonstrate certain objectives. A working knowledge of both may aid in understanding.

No software installation is required prior to this workshop. The workshop will involve demonstrations using Jupyter notebooks that can be accessed at https://github.com/carpentries-incubator/SDC-BIDS-IntroMRI/tree/gh-pages/code
